THREE TANTŌ (DAGGERS) IN MOUNTS
Muromachi (1336-1573) or Edo (1615-1868) period, 16th and 19th century
Comprising a yoroidōshi (armor piercer) forged in ko-itame hada and with a notare tempered edge, carved with a dragon and ken on the omote side, and futatsu-bi on the ura side, the ubu tang with two holes, signed Yoshihira, 8 3/8in (21.3cm) long, with a one-piece gilt habaki, the 19th-century aikuchi goshira-e (guardless mount), with a rare, ribbed blue-lacquer saya mounted with silver mounts chiseled in relief and with gold and shakudō details with butterflies and dragonflies among wisteria and omodaka (Sagittaria trifolia) and swirling waters, fitted with a silver kozuka (dagger handle) stamped with floral designs, signed with a seal, the tsuka wrapped in green thread and fitted with gold and shakudō menuki formed as dragonflies;
a blade of hirazuki, iori-mune configuration, with an indistinct forging pattern and tempered edge, the ubu tang with two holes, takanoha file marks and signed Kanetsugu saku, 7 1/2in (19cm) long, with a one-piece silver-foil habaki, the 19th-century aikuchi goshira-e with a black-lacquer saya decorated with cart wheels in silver inlays and mounted with silver fittings chiseled in bold relief with chrysanthemums with gilt highlights, the silver ishimeji kozuka and wari-kōgai decorated with chrysanthemum sprays with highlights of gilt, each signed Morishige saku, the tsuka wrapped in cotton thread over same and mounted with silver fuchigashira chiseled with chrysanthemums, signed Moritoshi saku and gilt menuki formed as phoenixes;
and a blade of hirazukuri, iori-mune configuration forged in ko-itame hada with a chōji midare tempered edge, the omote side carved with a stylized dragon, and the ura side with bonji (Sanskrit characters), the ubu tang with one hole, 9 3/4in (24.7cm) long, with a one-piece gilt habaki, the 19th-century wood koshira-e decorated overall with swimming carp in inlays of horn, iridescent shell, and bone and gold lacquer waves, the fuchigashira and kojiri of dark wood carved with clouds and rocks, the wood kozuka lacquered black with gold waves and inlaid with fish in shell and bone, signed Ōsen and with a kaō, the wood tsuba decorated with seashells and starfish in gold hiramaki-e

Shipping Notices

Oversized Lots
Please note that all lots marked with a W in the catalog are oversized and subject to additional storage and shipping methods. All additional lots purchased with W lots are considered group lots and will be subject to the same terms as W lots.
