DescriptionHennepin County’s Resident Services line of business is seeking an Assistant County Surveyor to provide leadership to high performing GIS and land surveying teams within our Land Information and Tax Services department.

Location and hours:This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with typical hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

About The Position TypeThis is a full-time, benefit-earning position. You must be a current regular or probationary employee of Land Information and Tax Services to apply for this position. Limited duration employees not eligible.

This position is internally classified as an Administrative Manager.

In This Position, You Will

• Demonstrate GIS and land surveying knowledge and its relevance to our customers and Hennepin County residents.
• Align capabilities of team members with the needs of the Survey division, Land Information and Tax Services, other Hennepin County lines of business, and customers. Coordinate and facilitate regular and recurring training sessions. Continuously innovate around evolving technology and work processes.
• Assist peers with the development of complex projects, processes, and tools to optimize the creation, use, and distribution of spatial data and land survey related maps by being the subject matter expert (SME) of surveying. Advise residents and customers with respect to GIS and Land Surveying.
• Establish time-driven, team-oriented goals that are attainable and realistic with clear indicators to successfully deliver projects. Determine solutions and resolve issues.
• Manage the collection, creation, and integration of data with department systems. Serve as the Survey division representative for internal and external work groups and committees.

Need to have:One Of The Following

• Nine years or more of experience related to organizational operations or programs in GIS and/or land surveying.
• Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, land surveying, public service administration, or other field appropriate to the position and five years of experience related to organizational operations or programs in GIS and/or land surveying.

Nice to have:

• Credentialed in land surveying or GIS.
• Knowledge of land surveying practices and procedures.
• Experience:
• Leading teams.
• Creating/managing GIS data, specifically related to COGO (coordinate geometry).
• Managing ArcGIS geodatabases in a multi-user environment.
• Using computer aided drafting software (AutoCAD, Microstation, Microsurvey).
• Working across different business groups.
• In racial, gender, LGBTQIA+, neurodiversity, and other differing ability equity.

About the department:Land Information and Tax Services is a department within the Resident Services Line of Business of Hennepin County that covers foundational responsibilities of government: land surveying, land recording, property tax collection and distribution. We also provide critical infrastructure and innovation support to departments throughout Resident Services.
